Terms of Service – GivePulse Service OpportunitiesTERMS OF USE & POLICY AFFIRMATION
William & Mary’s Office of Community Engagement (hereafter “OCE”) expects students to adhere to the following terms as a condition of participation in volunteer service opportunities and civic engagement activities promoted in GivePulse.
STANDARDS OF CONDUCT
By consenting below, I (student) understand and agree that all information I provide through GivePulse is true and accurate and that my use of GivePulse and any related participation in volunteer service opportunities or civic engagement opportunities are subject to the William & Mary Honor Code and Student Code of Conduct. I further understand that my acts or omissions during a volunteer service opportunity or civic engagement activity deemed to violate the William & Mary Honor Code or Student Code of Conduct may result in disciplinary action and sanctions imposed by the university.
LIMITATION OF LIABILITY AND ASSUMPTION OF RISK
GivePulse, the University’s online volunteer management database, allows students to search for opportunities posted by community partners as well as register for events, programs, sessions, etc. offered by Civic & Community Engagement and community partners. The University makes the information available in GivePulse as a service to its students to promote the ease of access to volunteer service opportunities and civic engagement activities. Community Partners may post opportunities for members of the William & Mary community, including students. While Civic & Community Engagement may provide guidelines for Community Partners, staff will not be on site or directly supervising or monitoring the activities of Community Partners. The university makes no representations or warranties regarding the organizations included in GivePulse and the university specifically disclaims any responsibility to investigate or otherwise assess the organizations included in GivePulse or the nature of the volunteer work involved. The provision of information in GivePulse does not indicate an endorsement or recommendation of any organization included in GivePulse by the university or Civic & Community Engagement.
Student participation in any opportunity posted through GivePulse is strictly voluntary and students are encouraged to consult the W&M Community Partnership Guidelines before choosing to participate. Students who participate in GivePulse activities do so at their own discretion and are voluntarily assuming the risks inherent in their selected activity regardless of the level of care taken by the university or a Community Partner. For in-person activities, these risks include physical injury or exposure to the virus that causes the condition known as COVID-19 or other communicable disease. Students who are ill should not participate in any in-person service opportunities.
By consenting, below, I hereby release, indemnify and hold harmless the University and its officers, trustees, directors, employees, faculty, host sites and agents from any and all damages, claims, actions, liability and expenses (including costs of judgments, settlements, court costs, and attorney's fees), regardless of the outcome of such claims or actions, arising out of or relating in any way to my use of GivePulse or my volunteer service at any organization included in GivePulse, except such damages, claims or liability arising solely from the gross negligence or intentional misconduct of the university.
CONSENT TO SHARE INFORMATION
I authorize the information contained in GivePulse, whether imported from university systems or inputted by myself, including but not limited to, first name, last name, phone number, address, and email address, to be disclosed to all persons who will be supervising my volunteer activities for which I have registered, including Community Partner’s staff and university administrators.
PHOTOGRAPHY/VIDEO CONSENT AND RELEASE
By registering for an Civic & Community Engagement provided/sponsored event, I understand and authorize William & Mary to copyright and publish all photographs and videos in print or electronic format in which I appear or speak that are taken by or for William & Mary. Contact Civic & Community Engagement with questions or concerns regarding this University Policy.
DISCLOSURE
The university reserves the right to discontinue any or all services at any time or to revise the terms and policies of this Agreement. When terms and policies are revised, they will be posted on GivePulse and the Civic & Community Engagement website. These terms and policies will be periodically reviewed to ensure compliance.
